Ayon sa Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, halos 10% ng GDP ng Pilipinas nung 2010 ay nagmumula sa OFW remittances na umabot ng $18.76 billion. Ayon sa President’s Budget Message for 2010, “contagion effects of global recession can affect OFW remittances and export receipts that can slow down domestic consumption which, combined with lower investment flows, can reduce GDP growth.”
