Social NetWorth in Laoag

After Davao and Dumaguete, Mulat Pinoy is bringing the Social NetWorth tour to a close in Laoag. On March 1, Northwestern University is hosting the Social NetWorth Regional Youth Forum-Luzon. NWU welcomes the discussion on population and development, social media and youth sexuality. The event will be held in the New Media Center, Paramedics Building, Laoag City, at 1:00 PM.

Social NetWorth began as a four-day workshop for college students in February 2012. The first workshop took place in Metro Manila and was attended by 24 college students from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

Now a regional forum series, Mulat Pinoy first brought Social NetWorth nationwide with a visit to the Davao’s University of Mindanao on August 29, 2012. Participating in the forum were WWF-Philippines, the Commission on Population, the Family Planning Organization of the Philippines and Sun.Star Davao. Over 450 students from UM and Holy Cross attended the event.

The next stop was Dumaguete’s Silliman University in September 2012. Public health journalist Ana Santos of Sex and Sensibilities and Rappler.com’s Michael Josh Villanueva were the speakers.

‘Social NetWorth-Laoag’ will feature the documentary, PopDev for YOUth. This documentary was shot, produced and edited by the Kabataan News Network, a project of the Probe Media Foundation, Inc.  Young people from all over the Philippines were trained in the production of video reports.

Another segment in the program is ‘Puro na lang sex!,’ talking about teen sexuality, popular myths and misconceptions about sex, and why it’s important to ask questions.

The last segment in the program is ‘Responsible social media use,’ where veteran journalists will talk about the impact of social media on the way we receive and pass on information, and how social media can be a tool for social change.

The forum is free and open to the public, and students from other educational institutions in Laoag are welcome. Media coverage is requested.
