Batang Malaya: Child labor free Philippines

Over a hundred former child labourers will march against child labour together with celebrities and advocates on 26 June 2012, Tuesday at 6:00 a.m. The march will be held at the Fun Ranch Ortigas Avenue corner C5 Pasig City, across Tiendesitas and Frontera Verde. There will be pit stops to symbolically bring back the lost childhood of former child labourers – Malayang Maglaro (with Teen Azkals and Alvin Patrimonio), Malayang Makapag-aral (with Makisig Morales, Slater of Pinoy Big Brother Unlimited) and Malayang Maging Ligtas at Malusog (Bb. Pilipinas beauty queens). Maliksi Morales will sing the official campaign song against child labour, entitled “Batang Malaya”, composed by Kirby Llaban.

After the march, the main forum and launch of the child labour data in the Philippines will be held at 9:00 a.m. (Big Room, Fun Ranch). The National Statistics Office will present preliminary results of the 2011 Survey on Children which will give an overall picture of the child labour situation in the country.

A press conference will follow at 11:00 a.m. (Grand Barnyard, Fun Ranch) with Administrator Carmelita Ericta of the National Statistics Office, Director Lawrence Jeff Johnson of the International Labour Organization Country Office of the Philippines and Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz of the Department of Labor and Employment, who is also the
Chairperson of the National Child Labor Committee.
