Using purple umbrellas against unrelenting rain, advocates of the Reproductive Health (RH) Bill marched from Rajah Sulayman Park in Manila to the Ninoy Aquino Memorial Stadium, July 11 to celebrate World Population Day.
The number of delegates, wearing the campaign color purple, rose to about a thousand upon arrival at the venue where a program began at 10 a.m. led by the Philippine Legislators’ Committee on Population and Development Foundation, Inc., Commission on Population, and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
This year’s celebration focused on the UN projection that the world’s population will reach 7 billion by Oct. 31, hence the theme “World of 7 Billion, Counting on Each Other.”
The program was highlighted by the launching of the Lila (Purple), theme song of the Purple Ribbon for RH Campaign performed by Noel Cabangon and Aia de Leon. The program also featured performances from rock bands The Dawn, Moonstar88, Padyak, Flying Ipis, Duster, Pedicab and Cambio and Ms. Lolita Carbon.
